After three years of construction, doors are open at the $25 million, 60,040-square-foot Izzo Family Medical Center, the newest addition to University Health Park that is expected to become a beacon of innovation and collaboration for the area.

 

Situated south of the new McLaren Greater Lansing hospital, the center houses nationally renowned and advanced services that will bring further access to exceptional care in the region. The services include an outpatient imaging center — a partnership with McLaren Greater Lansing and MSU Health Care, a multi-specialty clinic by McLaren, and a Pediatric Specialty Center by nationally renowned Corewell Health’s Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

“We are committed to ensuring that the best care, locally provided, is available in mid-Michigan and through this partnership, there will be local delivery of care that was not previously available in this region,” said Norman J. Beauchamp, Jr., executive vice president for Health Sciences at MSU.

"It brings me particular joy that something that is so emblematic of the Spartan spirit, which is teamwork in pursuit of the best outcomes, will be bearing the Izzo family name that has brought so much to the community and has been so responsive to meeting community needs, something that really pays tribute to Tom.”

In June, leaders of the partnering organizations gathered for an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Attending were Pat Gillespie, president of the Gillespie Group; Tom and Lupe Izzo; Kirk Ray, president and CEO of McLaren Greater Lansing, part of Grand Blanc-based McLaren Health Care; Seth Ciabotti, CEO of MSU Health Care; and Robert Fitzgerald, interim president of Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

“The collaboration of expertise between McLaren, MSU Health Care, Corewell Health and Gillespie Group is a great example of the work needed to advance and secure our community’s wellbeing,” said Tom Izzo. His wife, Lupe Izzo, added that “having our family be a part of this development in support of bringing the innovative medical services to impact the region for generations to come is an honor.”

The University Health Park was acquired by Michigan State University in the mid-1960s by President John A. Hannah and was used for entomology research for over 20 years. In 1988, MSU deeded 110 acres of this land to the Michigan State University Research Foundation for the purpose of building a research park. After several early projects from 1989 to 1996, the development at the University Corporate Research Park stalled. McLaren Greater Lansing was the first major development in the park in over 20 years and the campus was renamed University Health Park to better describe the uses occurring in the complex.

The MSU Health Care at McLaren Greater Lansing Outpatient Imaging Center will offer the most advanced Imaging technology in the area. The 22,632-square-foot facility is one of the largest imaging facilities in mid-Michigan and includes four new wide-bore MRI systems along with a new PET/CT scanner which allows for faster scanning times for patients’ comfort. The MSU Health Care at McLaren Greater Lansing Outpatient Imaging Center will also include X-ray/General Radiology, Bone Density Dexa and Ultrasound with convenient appointment times. The partnership also allows for the training of the next generation of physicians and staff.

McLaren services will consist of internal medical, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, urogynecologist services and imaging.
