In the first meet of the indoor season Friday evening, the Michigan State men's and women's track and field teams saw a school record broken and six Spartans place first in their respective events at the GVSU Holiday Open inside Kelly Family Sports Center.

Despite not taking part in the distance events, Michigan State finished with the third-most team points (116.25), scoring 57.70 on the men's side (third) and 58.75 on the women's side (fourth).

On the track, senior Brooke Bogan (7.49) and freshman Ava Qe'Neisha Young (7.60) both won their heats in the women's 60m dash to qualify for the finals, where the Spartan duo took the top two spots as Bogan ran a school-record time of 7.41 to win, while Young ran a 7.54 time to place second. Senior Haley Rathwell (57.65 personal record) and junior Nala Barlow (59.37) then had the third and sixth-best times in the 400m sprint to earn more team points.
