The Michigan State University Division of Student Affairs has long served as a vital cornerstone of the MSU community. It is a division dedicated to fostering holistic growth, well-being and vibrant connections, hosting a wide range of student-facing entities — the Office of Multicultural Enrichment and Advocacy, or OMEA; the MSU Union; Impact 89FM; and the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center, to name a few.
With the addition of James Hintz as vice president for Student Affairs last fall, the division is entering an exciting new chapter of growth and organizational realignment. Student Affairs is strengthening its executive leadership team with key appointments for two associate vice president roles: Jonathan Yorkowitz and Kim Steed-Page.
Both leaders bring extensive experience, deep empathy and a strong commitment to ensuring that every Spartan across the undergraduate and graduate student bodies finds a true sense of belonging and support in East Lansing.
Advocacy, engagement and care: Jonathan Yorkowitz joins as AVP and dean of students
Michigan State is proud to introduce Jonathan Yorkowitz as the new associate vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students. With over 20 years of higher education leadership, Yorkowitz comes to MSU with expertise spanning student advocacy, crisis response, student conduct, behavioral threat management and community engagement.
Most recently serving in executive leadership for the Dean of Students Office at the University of Florida, alongside previous senior roles at the University of Indianapolis and Hardin-Simmons University, Yorkowitz has built his career on creating integrated systems of care and institutional accountability. His personal background as a first-generation college student from a rural, limited-income background deeply informs his student-centered philosophy.
“I strongly believe that when good opportunities arise, you should lean in to discover where they may take you,” said Yorkowitz. “As a land-grant institution, Michigan State has an exceptional mission. I’m honored to serve in this role and excited for what we’ll accomplish together as Spartans.”
Bringing a broad academic foundation which includes being a first-generation student, a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, a master’s in human services, and a doctorate in educational administration, Yorkowitz blends strong communication with strategic vision. A Midwest native with family ties to Michigan, he looks forward to engaging directly with students, cheering on Spartan athletics, and connecting with families and external partners to champion student success.
A quarter-century commitment: Kim Steed-Page takes the helm of inclusive access and belonging
Stepping into the role of associate vice president for Student Affairs is Kim Steed-Page, a dedicated Spartan who will oversee the Department of Inclusive Access and Belonging, or IAB. For Steed-Page, an MSU alumna with a master’s in social work and 25 years of campus leadership and mentorship, this appointment is the natural evolution of a lifelong mission.
Having served in various capacities across Student Affairs — most recently as interim AVP and director of the Student Parent and Caregiver Resource Center — Steed-Page possesses a deep, firsthand understanding of both student needs and frontline administrative operations. Her strategic vision centers on dismantling organizational silos, incorporating direct student feedback into daily decision-making and cultivating a supportive culture where both staff and students can thrive.
“We have a responsibility to admitted students — to support them as whole people, honoring what they bring with them and who they become during their time with us,” Steed-Page reflected. “Progress happens through relationships and trust.”
Known off-campus for her tight-knit family, eclectic taste in music and ongoing quest to master Euchre (a true Michigan rite of passage!), Steed-Page brings warmth, authenticity and institutional wisdom to her executive leadership role.

Whether welcoming new families during orientation or partnering with administrative colleagues across campus, the Division of Student Affairs remains steadfast in its stewardship of the student journey. With AVP Yorkowitz and AVP Steed-Page in these key positions, MSU is well positioned to advance its mission of empowering every student to achieve their full potential.
