Things to do at MSU for the week of April 13-19

As spring settles in, there are a lot of activities to taking part across campus from concerts and theater to baseball and tennis matchups.

The MSU Science Festival is also happening the month of April. Check out that list of events here.

Monday, April 13

  • USA at 250 years- Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the USA with music from U.S. composers who helped shape American culture and expression at the Fairchild Theater.

Tuesday, April 14

  • Baseball vs. Oakland University- At Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Stadium.
  • African American Musical Identity: Songs, sources and performers- Guided exploration of African American identity through songs, spirituals and inspirations at the MSU Library.

Wednesday, April 15

  • Student Recreation and Wellness Center Open House- Get a sneak peek at the new wellness center from 4 to 8 p.m. This event is open to members of the MSU community only. MSU ID will be required for entry.
  • Artist Talks: 2026 Master of Fine Arts Exhibition- Join the MSU Department of Art, Art History and Design Master of Fine Arts candidates as they discuss their work in the 2026 Master of Fine Arts Exhibition at the Broad Art Museum.
  • Jane Austen’s Persuasion- Join the MSU Department of Theater’s production of Jane Austen's Persuasion at the Pasant Theater through April 19.

Thursday, April 16

  • Third Thursday Crafting Meet Up- At the Makerspace Flex Space Classroom and craft things like jewelry, embroidery and rainbow loom.
  • Broad Underground X MSU Film Collective: The Tower preview screening- Watch “The Tower,” a film made by Philip Rabalais and Auden Lincoln-Vogel at Wells Hall.
  • MSU Jazz Spectacular Series- Through April 18, join the College of Music in several events featuring jazz music and MSU musicians. Learn more about the series here.

Friday, April 17

  • Live Lit- Showcase the creative writing process of undergraduate students at Erickson Kiva.
  • Arab American Heritage Month: Special Collections Pop-up- Celebrate the Arab American experience by featuring a range of materials that highlight cultural contributions and history.
  • Curator Tour: Seeing in 360 Degrees- Join Rachel Winter for a tour in celebration of Arab American Heritage Month.
  • Men's Tennis vs. Indiana- At MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
  • Jazz Swing Dance- Get up and dance at the Billman Music Pavilion with jazz orchestras delivering swing music.

Saturday, April 18

  • Earth Bash- Reduce, reuse and recycle at the MSU Surplus store and Recycling center with shopping, planting and donations.
  • Football Spring Showcase- At Spartan Stadium.
  • Women's Tennis vs. Michigan- At MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
  • The Music of Studio Ghibli- Experience the music of iconic Studio Ghibli movies from a live orchestra at the Cobb Great Hall.
  • Jazz at Lincoln Center: Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Regional Competition- High school jazz bands perform works by Duke Ellington and other jazz legends before jazz clinicians and professional musicians. Free and open to the public.

Sunday, April 19

  • Museum tour: Deep-Rooted with Beal Botanical Garden- Join Maeve Bassett for an immersive tour of the historical, social and political narratives of the MSU Broad Art Museum collections.
  • SpARTan Wellness: Sun Prints + Self Care- Use the sun to make art at the Broad Art Museum and learn tips for using the sun for your wellbeing.
  • Jazz Spectacular Finale Concert with Anat Cohen- The series culminates with Anat Cohen joined by MSU Jazz Orchestra I, the Professors of Jazz, and the Outstanding High School Jazz Band of the Day.
