If your commute to campus runs along Grand River Avenue between Hagadorn Road and Bogue Street, it may be time to start thinking about an alternative route.
A major construction project will ramp up this summer, bringing lane closures between Gunson Street and Woodmere Avenue from June 1 through July 17. The work is part of a city of East Lansing effort to separate stormwater and sewer systems, an upgrade designed to reduce flooding and improve water quality over the long term.
In the short term, however, drivers can expect detours, heavier traffic on surrounding roads and longer travel times, especially during peak hours.
Employees who regularly travel through the area are encouraged to plan ahead by exploring alternate routes, building in extra time or adjusting schedules where possible. Even small shifts, such as leaving a bit later, could help ease the impact.
The city of East Lansing will continue sharing updates on traffic changes, detours and access to local businesses and neighborhoods throughout the project. Employees can stay informed by visiting the city’s construction web page or signing up for email and alert notifications.
