Michigan State University is holding the second annual Ethics Week, Feb. 16–20. Organized by the Ethics Institute, the week-long series of events strives to actively involve students, faculty, staff and the community in meaningful ethics conversations.

In addition to helping students, researchers and the public navigate ethical challenges with clarity and purpose, the Ethics Institute creates space for dialogue around ethical issues shaping higher education and public life.

Ethics Week includes a mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid opportunities for the MSU and local communities. A wide range of topics and disciplines will be covered, including artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, advertising, health care, accounting, digital literacy, information systems, sports and entertainment, inclusion and belonging.

  • Ethics of the University, Tuesday, Feb. 17, 4:30–5:50 p.m. (Minskoff Pavilion, Multipurpose Room)

    • This panel discussion features MSU Provost Emeritus Thomas Jeitschko and three nationally known experts on how ethics is managed in corporations, universities and other organizations. The panel will discuss how large institutions incorporate ethics into everything they do.

  • The Roy S. Pung Executive Speaker Lecture featuring Kay Firth-Butterfield,Wednesday, Feb. 18, 5:30–6:30 p.m. (North Business Building, Room N130)

    • Kay Firth-Butterfield, one of the foremost experts in the world on the use and governance of AI, will address many aspects of the beneficial and challenging technical, economic and social changes arising from artificial intelligence.

  • MSU Leadership Panel, Friday, Feb. 20, 10–11 a.m. (Multicultural Center, Room 1015)

    • President Kevin Guskiewicz, Provost Laura Lee McIntyre, Executive Vice President for Administration Vennie Gore, Vice President and Chief Communications Officer Emily Guerrant, and Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning Innovation Marcio Oliveira will discuss the impacts and outcomes of ethics and leadership on a university campus.
