Directed by MSU Professor of Voice Melanie Helton and conducted by Katherine Kilburn, "La Cenerentola" tells the Cinderella-like story of the kind-hearted Angelina, known as Cenerentola. Her life takes a magical turn when the noble Prince Ramiro, seeking true love, is guided not by a fairy godmother but by the wise Alidoro. This production celebrates Rossini’s iconic bel canto style, with vibrant melodies and virtuosic arias that are sure to delight audiences.

Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Italian countryside, "La Cenerentola"culminates in the uplifting aria “Non più mesta,” in which Cenerentola triumphs over adversity and joyfully sings of her newfound happiness. The performance will be sung in Italian with English subtitles, allowing the beauty of Rossini’s music to shine.

“We are thrilled to bring 'La Cenerentola' to the stage as part of our opera season,” said Melanie Helton, Director of MSU Opera Theatre. “Rossini’s delightful take on the Cinderella story touches on timeless themes of love, resilience, and transformation. Our talented cast and creative team have poured their hearts into this production, and we can’t wait to share it with our community.”

The power and beauty of "La Cenerentola" lies in its dynamic music and the classic story of love and triumph, offering patrons a chance to enjoy one of opera’s most enduring works. Whether opera aficionados or newcomers, audiences will be enchanted by this production, filled with passion, humor, and exceptional music.

Attendees interested in learning more about the production are invited to a preview lecture by stage director Melanie Helton, starting 45 minutes before each performance, offering insights into the themes and history.
