The Center for Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students, or CVMAS, at Michigan State University provides service members, veterans and military-affiliated students with the resources and support they need to navigate their academic journey and build meaningful careers.

This year, Michigan State University is expanding Veterans Day to Veterans Week through the hard work of CVMAS and additional partnerships. This week-long celebration honors all veterans currently serving and those who have served in the United States Armed Forces during times of war or peace, especially military-connected Spartans. Post 2001, most veterans use their benefits to pursue higher education, making MSU a pivotal transition point for many who have served.

“Through this expansion of recognition, the MSU community can come together to foster a culture where veterans feel at home through a sense of belonging,” said Patrick Forystek, director of CVMAS.

The Center for Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students is hosting three impactful events for this year’s Veterans Week, including the Veterans Day Brunch. This event is open to the public and is a time to show appreciation not only for those who have served, but also for the people and communities they care about.

Additionally, the College of Law has partnered with Student Veterans of America, or SVA, to host several special events this week. A Veterans Day celebratory lunch will be held in Room 343 at the College of Law Building and will feature guests of honor from the U.S. Armed Forces, MSU Department of Police and Public Safety, city of East Lansing and more.

Thanks to university-wide support and units like CVMAS, MSU has been designated with Gold-level status by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency for the 10th consecutive year! This institutional accomplishment marks MSU as perhaps the most veteran-friendly higher education institution in the state. Let’s reach out as a community to celebrate and honor the sacrifice and service of our veterans and military-affiliated students.
