Jasmine Felder is currently a second-year law student at the MSU College of Law. On April 1, 2025, she will begin her term as the 58th Regional Chair of the Midwestern Region of the National Black Law Students Association (MWBLSA). 

 

I loved my current role as a National Member-at-Large for National Black Law Student Association and wanted to continue to serve but in a regional capacity. So I decided to run for 58th Regional Chair for MWBLSA. I went through the proper procedures to become a candidate and attended its annual convention in January. 

And I was elected to the position! 

Even though my term doesn’t begin until April 1, 2025, I have already started laying the groundwork to recruit people to serve on the 58th MWBLSA Regional Board and have started making contacts in hosting the region’s Academic Leadership Retreats and other special events that will take place in the fall 2025 semester. MWBLSA comprises over 45 chapters in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming, so I definitely have my work cut out for me. 

In addition to my new role in MWBLSA, I am involved in several organizations at MSU Law, including being Dean's Public Service Social Justice Fellow; Kaplan Bar Representative; At-Large Representative for the Student Bar Association; Member of the MSU Black Law Students Association; and an Executive Ambassador and Student Assistant for the Office of Admissions.  

This summer, I will be working as a judicial intern for a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida (Tampa, FL division). My duties will most likely include researching federal standing requirements, personal jurisdiction, and subject matter jurisdiction, drafting proposed orders for law clerks, and assisting law clerks and judges in preparation for oral arguments, hearings, and trial. My long-term goal is to prosecute federal (criminal and civil rights violations) crimes as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida (Miami, FL division).
