MSU in Focus: Eugene Case

By: Derrick Turner

MSU has a fleet of 1,400 vehicles that Automotive Services maintains with just seven expert mechanics. Eugene Case, known as Gene, is one of those magnificent seven.

The certified automotive mechanic has over 35 years of experience, with the last 15 at MSU. “My favorite vehicles to work on are vans and trucks,” he said.

Gene has worked on half the vehicles in MSU’s vast fleet. According to Adam Rosa, office coordinator for Transportation Services, “MSU mechanics work tirelessly to keep our vehicles up and running. Gene is genuine and brings laughter to the workplace.”

When President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Ph.D., recently asked Automotive Services to borrow a golf cart to get around campus, Gene got to share the good news: a dedicated presidential golf cart is one of the perks of being president. He got the cart road-ready and showed President Guskiewicz how to operate it. “It was a great way to meet the new president,” Gene said.

“I loved Eugene’s Spartan spirit, which we are finding to be consistent among the many employees committed to ensuring a culture of kindness here at MSU,” President Guskiewicz said.
