Big things are coming to Impression 5 Science Center this summer. “Organ Adventure: Exploring the Human Body” is an interactive experience designed to educate visitors about human anatomy and health. This is the exhibit’s debut appearance, and it will be open from June 15 to Aug. 18.
“Organ Adventure” is sponsored by MSU Health Care — the fully integrated academic health center of Michigan State University — and includes an enormous inflatable liver, heart, brain and lungs. There will also be an enormous eye to study up close and a variety of activities to explain organ function and explore healthy habits. Impression 5 Science Center is a dynamic hands-on learning environment focused on creating interactive experiences that integrate STEM concepts and develop scientific behaviors.
“This larger-than-life journey through the human body provides valuable understanding of our vital organs,” said Seth Ciabotti, chief executive officer of MSU Health Care. “We are excited to be a forerunner in creative initiatives that promote and support health education in the Greater Lansing community.”
“I remember wanting to be a doctor from the first time I learned about grown-up jobs,” said Robert Root, associate chief medical officer and pediatrician at MSU Health Care and assistant professor of pediatrics for MSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. “This exhibit will be a fun adventure. It could be a spark that sets a foundation for the future, and seeing how the body works might help kids think about how healthy choices can have a positive impact on their bodies. It’s never too early to learn about your health.”
“Experiences like this allow youth to hone their STEM skills and dream about their future,” said Erik Larson, executive director of Impression 5 Science Center. “We always look forward to seeing children and their families enjoy learning.”
Located at 200 Museum Drive in downtown Lansing, the science center is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission rates are $12 for adults and children over two years old and $10.50 for seniors and members of the military and their families. Admission is free for all science center members and children under two. Guests who qualify for the Museums for All scholarship program will receive a discounted admission of $2.
