Give Green Day set for March 12

The 24-hour fundraising effort will bring donors across the globe together to support MSU students

24 hours. More than 500,000 Spartans. One goal: support the success of every student at Michigan State University.

MSU’s eighth annual Give Green Day campaign is taking place on March 12, 2024.

This single day of giving harnesses the power of Spartan connections across the globe to garner support for students, programs and causes on campus and beyond.

The effort will kick off at 12 a.m. ET on March 12 with night-owls (or early risers) angling for the unofficial honor of making the first gift of the day.

With a combined $200,000 in matching funds, the momentum will continue from there with a variety of ways for donors to earn bonus monies for their favorite college, program or fund. The matching funds  will help maximize the impact of Spartans’ support and are thanks to a generous $100,000 commitment from MSU Federal Credit Union – a steadfast community partner and Give Green Day sponsor — and an additional $100,000 from the Office of the MSU President.

“Give Green Day is an opportunity for Spartans once each year to unite over a shared purpose: strengthening the experiences and successes of our students, now and in the future,” said Vice President for University Advancement Kim Tobin. “We cannot thank our generous supporters enough for their inspirational impact on the global Spartan community through philanthropy.”

Sean Ward, a junior from Cleveland, Ohio studying plant and environmental biology stated, “What I would say to anyone considering giving to MSU would first be thank you. And also I would want them to know how much of an impact donating can have on someone's life. Without scholarships and without generosity of MSU and the donors I don't believe that I would be able to be a part of the Spartan community, and I don't believe that would be where I am today, and in such a good and competitive place for grad school.”

As always, donors can also choose to support any area that is meaningful to them.

All of MSU’s colleges are participating, as well as other areas of the university including Athletics, the Wharton Center for Performing Arts, both campus museums, the MSU Libraries, and WKAR, to name a few.

Fifty-six alumni clubs are raising funds for scholarships that will be awarded to students from their region who attend MSU.

There are also dozens of CrowdPower and other online fundraising projects seeking support: from student clubs, to funds that improve storied campus landmarks, to resources that make campus a welcoming, supporting living and learning environment for all.
