Michigan State track & field senior Heath Baldwin has been named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league Wednesday.
Baldwin broke the school record in the decathlon at last week's prestigious Mt. SAC Relays with a point total of 8,084, topping the previous record of 8,064 set in 2022. Competing in the elite section of the event, Baldwin finished in second place and as the top collegian, finishing only behind 2019 World Championships participant Harrison Williams.
Baldwin set personal bests in five of the ten events en route to his record, including the 100m, 400m, 110 hurdles, discus and javelin throw. He also recorded the best high jump clearance in the field at 2.07m.
The Kalamazoo, Michigan native has had a record-setting year for the Spartans, breaking the school record in every multi-event he has competed in in 2023. His 8,084 points currently ranks first in the Big Ten and second in the NCAA.
Baldwin is MSU's second Field Athlete of the Week recipient this season, collecting the honor after graduate student Trevor Stephenson was named Field Athlete of the Week on April 5.
