Melissa Woo, executive vice president for administration and chief information officer at Michigan State University, has been appointed to serve on the EDUCAUSE board of Directors.
EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association comprising technology leaders and professionals committed to advancing higher education. Woo’s appointment fills a partial term on the board that runs through October 2023.
EDUCAUSE supports leaders in the information technology field through a robust offering of resources and activities in the areas of analysis, advocacy, community building, professional development, and knowledge creation.

Woo, who joined MSU as CIO in December of 2019, and was named EVPA by President Stanley in the fall of 2020, has a distinguished history with EDUCAUSE. She received the EDUCAUSE 2019 DEI Leadership and 2012 Rising Star Awards, and has served on EDUCAUSE’s DEI Advisory Committee, the 2012 Conference Program Committee and Professional Development Advisory Committee. In addition, she has presented at EDUCAUSE conferences on multiple occasions, addressing topics such as developing aspiring IT leaders and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the IT profession.
Prior to becoming a Spartan, Woo served as senior vice president for information technology and enterprise chief information officer for Stony Brook University. She has also held IT leadership roles at the University of Oregon, University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign where she earned her Ph.D. in biophysics.
