We're grateful for campus beauty, on Thanksgiving or any day of the year. Especially stunning is Mayo Hall's courtyard, gently frosted with snow. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
Members of the Department of African American and African studies and the MSU community gathered for the “ascension” of the department at an opening ceremony Nov. 17. AAAS, part of the College of Arts and Letters, has two major reasons to celebrate: a new home in North Kedzie Hall and the launch of the Bachelor of Arts in African American and African studies, allowing students to both major and minor within the department. Beaumont Tower practically becomes Snow-mont Tower amid the first flurries of the season. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
With snow on the ground giving wintertime vibes, the MSU College Advising Corps gave students a taste of fall by passing out cider and donuts while promoting their program. The MSUCAC assists high school students seeking post-secondary education by placing recent MSU grads alongside counselors and college access organizations to give a near-peer perspective to high school students on the college application process. Snow falls along the tops of reliefs carved into a limestone pillar near MSU’s Abbot Road entrance, created as a gift of the class of 1938 by artist Samuel Cashwan. The pillar harkens back to the university’s agricultural roots and depicts a man, woman, horse and sheath of wheat. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
Sparty sprinted onto the field to deliver the game flag at the final home game of the season on Saturday in Spartan Stadium. Though MSU didn’t manage to seize the Old Brass Spittoon from the Hoosiers, they’ll have one last chance to end the year with a win at Penn State on Saturday, Nov. 26. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
The MSU College of Law, Indigenous Law and Policy Center and Tribal In-House Counsel Association hosted the 19th annual Indigenous Law Conference at MSU Nov. 17 and 18. The conference brings together leaders in tribal self-governance, scholars and students to exchange ideas and information on a variety of topics. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
