The American flag waves proudly over the MSU Alumni Memorial Chapel, two reminders of Spartans who have served as we approach Veteran’s Day. The Alumni Chapel was completed in 1952, dedicated to Spartans who served and died in the United Stated military during World War II. The chapel’s entrance is engraved with 586 names and dates of men and women who died serving their country though military service, going as far back as 1861 — commemorating Spartans who served in the Civil War. The MSU Broad Art Museum is celebrating its 10th birthday on Nov. 10, and last weekend families were invited to join the celebration by using materials like party hats to create wearable art. The first Saturday of each month is Family Day at the Broad, and art-lovers of all ages are welcome to explore the museum’s exhibitions and participate in art-making activities. Photo by Derrick L. A visitor examines sculpture-like vases at the MSU Broad Art Museum, part of the exhibition “Zaha Hadid Design: Untold.” The exhibition serves as a retrospective of Hadid’s work, with the greatest piece of art on display being the MSU Broad Art Museum itself, designed by Hadid in 2008 and completed on 2012. The exhibition will run through Feb. 12., 2023, and the museum is free and open to the public, with ticket reservations required. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.

Bright lights add a sci-fi vibe to the MSU Library bridge, illuminating the unique design along its railing. The design was created by MSU graduate Gavin Kata, who submitted it during his senior year as part of a contest offered by the Public Art on Campus Committee and the Department of Art, Art History and Design in 2017.
