W.J. Beal Botanical Garden crew member Jake Mantela works to identify plants along the Red Cedar River. With more than 2,000 different taxa growing in the garden, keeping detailed records is a key to success. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
While the W.J. Beal Botanical Garden serves as an outdoor teaching and research lab, you don’t need to don a lab coat to enjoy its natural beauty. Whether learning about plants or taking the perfect picture, visitors are always welcome in the garden. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
Looking out from the window of Beaumont Tower reveals a panorama of campus that’s as stunning as the tower itself. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.

The MSU Pediatric Public Health Initiative team celebrates surpassing its original goal of reaching 20,000 participants in the Flint Registry — a huge milestone in improving health in the city post-lead exposure. The registry connects people to services and programs that promote health and wellness while illustrating how the Flint water crisis has affected their community; and it’s never too late to sign up. Cheryl Murphy, director of the MSU Center for PFAS Research, testified about efforts to address toxic PFAS contamination in Michigan at a U.S. Senate hearing. PFAS are a class of compounds that have been found to have harmful health and environmental impacts. Photo by Derrick L. Turner.
