MSU Broad Art Museum celebrates 10th anniversary

The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University announces a roster of public programs celebrating the museum’s 10th anniversary during the month of November, including events for families, students and the Greater Lansing community. The MSU Broad Art Museum opened on Nov. 10, 2012.

“As we celebrate 10 years at the MSU Broad Art Museum, we’re also celebrating our community, collaborators and the vibrant arts energy that is found both on and off campus,” comments Zoe Kissel, director of communications at the MSU Broad Art Museum. “It’s a time to look back at all the wonderful exhibitions and events the museum has held over the years, as well as the exciting programs we have planned for the future in this remarkable building.”

One of the must-attend events in November is a keynote lecture presented alongside the signature exhibition Zaha Hadid Design: Untold. Craig Kiner, the project director at Zaha Hadid Architects for the MSU Broad Art Museum, will discuss the museum’s architecture and the process of designing and building the museum.

The MSU Broad Art Museum is always free and open to all. Visitors must reserve free tickets in advance to attend events. Visit broadmuseum.msu.edu/events for more information and to register.

November anniversary events

Family Day: Celebrate the MSU Broad (We’re 10!)

Saturday, Nov. 5, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
First Saturday means Family Day at the MSU Broad Art Museum, and this month we are celebrating our 10th birthday. Join our party and create your own wearable art just as wacky as our building! And don’t forget to take home a tasty birthday treat (while supplies last). All ages are welcome.

Broad to the Future
Friday, Nov. 11, 7 – 9 p.m.
MSU students, we’re going Broad to the Future for our birthday. Obviously, our spaceship, time-machine building is already there, and we hope you will be too! From tarot card readings to scavenger hunts, screen printing, time capsules, snacks, and giveaways, this birthday is sure to be out of this world. Presented in partnership with University Activities Board. Students must show their MSU ID upon entry.

Architecture Tour
Sunday, Nov. 13, 1 – 1:45 p.m.
Learn more about our unique building and the Pritzker Prize-winning architect behind it through this tour led by Assistant Curator Rachel Winter. Celebrate our 10th anniversary by celebrating the building! All ages are welcome.

Screen Print Sundays
Sundays, Nov. 13, 20, 2 – 4 p.m.
We're turning 10 this year! Most Sundays this fall, we’re celebrating art, architecture, and our community (that's you!). Visit the museum between 2pm and 4pm to pull a birthday screen print. With a new design each month, we hope you'll collect them all.

An Evening with Craig Kiner of Zaha Hadid Architects
Stanley and Selma Hollander Distinguished Lecture Series
Wednesday, Nov. 16, 6 – 8 p.m.

Have you ever wondered why the MSU Broad Art Museum looks the way it does? Join us for a keynote lecture by Craig Kiner, the Project Director at Zaha Hadid Architects for the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at MSU, and a subsequent conversation with Assistant Curator Rachel Winter. Kiner’s lecture will explore the inspiration behind the MSU Broad Art Museum’s architecture and discuss the process of designing and building the museum.

Curator Tour
Sunday, Nov. 20, 1 – 2 p.m.
Did you know that Zaha Hadid designed more than buildings? Join Assistant Curator Rachel Winter for a special walkthrough of the exhibition Zaha Hadid Design: Untold, which explores the life and creative practice
