Reducing and reusing campus waste

Spartan Employee Spotlight – Surplus Store and Recycling Center

By: Aaron Fedewa, Melody Kindraka, Kyle Root

Konar Nokken works to collect items across campus for the Surplus Store and Recycling Center. In support of MSU’s mission and strategic sustainability goals, Nokken and his co-workers manage campus’ waste as a resource through reuse and recycling.

The Surplus Store and Recycling Center team collects and sorts materials from campus buildings and a public drop-off site. Recyclable materials and reusable items are sold to support university operations. More importantly, the process diverts thousands of tons of waste from landfills each year.
