MSU All-University Awards honor outstanding faculty and staff

MSU is pleased to recognize the achievements of faculty and staff who have received distinguished awards for their contributions to the university and their fields of research. The MSU Awards Convocation for 2021 recipients will be scheduled next year due to the pandemic.

Award recipients were notified by Suzanne Lang, associate provost, and will receive a framed certificate prior to the official ceremony. To view the award recipients, use the links for the awards below.

Supported by the Office of University Development, the William J. Beal Outstanding Faculty Award winners are honored for a comprehensive and sustained record of scholarly excellence in research and/or creative activities, instruction and outreach. 

Supported by the Office of University Development, Teacher-Scholar Awards are awarded to faculty who, early in their careers, have earned the respect of students and colleagues for their devotion to and skill in teaching, and whose instruction is linked to and informed by their research and creative activities. 

Supported by the Office of the Associate Provost for University Outreach and Engagement, the Community Engagement Scholarship Award recognizes a mutually beneficial and sustained campus-community research partnership. 

The President’s Distinguished Teaching Award is given to faculty members who have created innovative teaching environments that enable student learning within and across disciplinary, cultural and ethnic boundaries. The President’s Distinguished Teaching Award is supported by an endowment from Carl and Margaret Leidholm.

Supported by the Office of University Development, Distinguished Academic Staff Awards are awarded to academic specialists and MSU Extension academic staff for extraordinary achievement, excellence and exceptional contributions in advising, curriculum development, outreach, extension, research and/or teaching. 

Excellence-in-Teaching Citations are awarded to graduate teaching assistants who have distinguished themselves by the care they have given and the skill they have shown in meeting their classroom responsibilities. The awards are supported by the Office of University Development.

The Donald F. Koch Quality in Undergraduate Teaching Award recognizes teachers who take pride in and are committed to quality undergraduate teaching and who demonstrate substantial continuing involvement in undergraduate education. 

The Robert F. Banks Award for Institutional Leadership recognizes the dedication of faculty, staff and support staff leaders who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to institutional leadership by advancing the university’s core values of quality, inclusiveness and connectivity; fostering partnerships and sharing knowledge; and advancing a vision for change. The award is supported by the Office of University Development.

The Excellence in Diversity Awards were announced and recognized during a virtual ceremony on Feb. 24, 2021. The awards recognize individuals, teams, units and organizations that have performed above and beyond and demonstrate outstanding leadership and creativity in the area of diversity.
