I am writing to you in response to several inquiries we have received regarding the safety of our campus community.
Many of you have heard about the planning underway in states across the nation in preparation for any events that may take place leading up to the Presidential Inauguration. The Michigan State Capitol, in the city of Lansing, is a little more than four miles from campus. Events there are handled by the Michigan State Police and rarely impact the campus of Michigan State University. However, the Michigan State University Police Department has partnerships with area law enforcement and we are sharing resources and information with them.
The duty of the MSU Police Department is to serve and protect each of you. I want to assure you that your safety is our top priority. We maintain a strong and visible presence on campus and have a very robust plan to respond to any emergency situation. We believe we are well-positioned to ensure the safety of our community.
Please remember, if you see something concerning or out of the normal, say something. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, please call 517-355-2221. Anonymous tips may also be submitted by text message — send the word ‘MSUPD’ to CRIMES (274637) along with your message.
During these times, we recognize that everyone may have different emotional responses to the events occurring nationally and locally. As such, Counseling & Psychiatric Services continues to support students by providing tele-health services and employees can receive support and resources through the Employee Assistance Program.
