Five Michigan State University student-athletes have been recognized for excellence on the playing field, in the classroom and in the community, earning the school's highest athletic awards for 2019-20.
The awards include the George Alderton Male and Female Athletes of the Year, Big Ten Conference Medals of Honor, Chester Brewer Leadership Award and James Feurig Achievement and Service Award. A panel of administrators and coaches selected the winners.
Men's basketball senior Cassius Winston was named the George Alderton Male Athlete of the Year, while sophomore golfer Valery Plata and redshirt senior cross country/track and field athlete Annie Fuller shared George Alderton Female Co-Athletes of the Year honors.
