Michigan State University has nominated nine undergraduate students, a graduate student and an alumna for nationally competitive graduate school scholarships: the Marshall Scholarship, the Mitchell Scholarship and the Rhodes Scholarships.
All of the scholarships support students attending graduate school in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
The MSU nominees for the Marshall Scholarship are:
· Daniel Greeson, a 2019 MSU graduate and Honors College member with a degree in linguistics in the College of Arts and Letters. He is currently pursuing a master’s in linguistics at MSU
· Virginia Lindberg, an Honors College senior majoring in environmental biology and zoology in the College of Natural Science
· Anthony Luongo, an Honors College senior majoring in international relations in James Madison College, and economics in the College of Social Science
· Jasmine Jordan, an Honors College senior majoring in political science in the College of Social Science
· Alexis Sargent, a 2018 MSU graduate and Honors College member with a degree in social relations and policy in James Madison College
· Maysa Sitar, an Honors College senior majoring in political science in the College of Social Science
· Brent Strong, an Honors College senior majoring in physiology in the College of Natural Science
· Kellie Walker, an Honors College senior majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology in Lyman Briggs College
Jordan and Sitar have also been nominated for the Mitchell Scholarship along with:
· Katherine Paulot, a senior majoring in comparative cultures and politics in James Madison College, anthropology in the College of Social Science, and women’s and gender studies in the College of Arts and Letters
· Evan Suttell, an Honors College senior majoring in international relations, and comparative cultures and politics in James Madison College
Lindberg, Jordan, Sargent, Sitar, Strong, and Walker have also been nominated for the U.S. Rhodes Scholarship.
The MSU nominee and semi-finalist for the Global Rhodes Scholarship is:
· Abii-Tah Chungong Bih, an Honors College senior majoring in international relations, and comparative cultures and politics in James Madison College. Bih is a MasterCard Foundation Scholar from Cameroon.
The National and International Fellowships and Scholarships (NIFS) Office, administered by the Honors College, helps interested undergraduate and graduate students pursue major national and international opportunities by providing information and direct support throughout the competitive application processes.
MSU has produced 18 Marshall Scholars, four Mitchell Scholars and 20 Rhodes Scholars (19 U.S., and one from Zambia).
The Marshall Commission provides support to approximately 48 of the most outstanding undergraduates in the country to study at any university in the United Kingdom.
The U.S.-Ireland Alliance established the George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program, which allows up to 12 future American leaders to pursue a year of graduate study in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and perhaps most prestigious international scholarship program, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford. The U.S. Rhodes Scholarship awards 32 scholarships, and the Global Rhodes Scholarship awards two scholarships.
