Spartan students stay socially engaged

By: Meredith Mescher
While Michigan State University students are learning remotely, they continue to have access to a wealth of opportunities and connections that come with being a Spartan.

The MSU community has worked to keep students engaged and supported this semester, no matter where they are, through academic and social organizations, career and volunteering events, networking opportunities and mentorship programs.

Students also are sharing tips and resources with their fellow Spartans. Here, MSU senior Alia Jones offers some ways everyone can stay involved and connected to one another, including joining student clubs and organizations and taking part in live events.

Resources for staying engaged

Here’s a list of some places to get started.

Circles of Success mentoring program: This new program for first-year and transfer students pairs them with a peer and a professional mentor to ease the transition to MSU and answer any questions new students might have.

Impact 89FM: MSU’s award-winning student radio station offers Spartans numerous ways to get involved, on air and behind the scenes.

Involve@State: Search tons of upcoming events by topic and join MSU student clubs and organizations that fit your interests.

LBGT Resource Center: This student-centered campus resource works to celebrate, affirm and empower LGBTQA+ members of the MSU community through education, engagement, advocacy and student support.

MSU Connect: Your own personal Spartan network. Explore career paths and connect with alumni.

MSU Social Media Directory: Follow official MSU social media accounts to stay up to date and connect with fellow Spartans.

Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions: OCAT supports students in their navigation of cross-cultural encounters, and in their own understanding, exploration and development of cultural identity.

Recreational Sports and Fitness: Stay strong by joining virtual fitness classes taught by MSU fitness instructors.

Student Affairs and Services: A great place to start to learn about culture and identity groups, Greek life, LGBTQA+ resources and lots more.

Student Government: The Associated Students of MSU is the undergraduate student government. Learn more and get involved.

Student Parent Resource Center: Find support, resources and campus and community connections for MSU student parents.

Student Veterans Resource Center: MSU is a gold-status, veteran-friendly school, promoting the educational, career and personal advancement of military-connect students.

Virtual volunteer opportunities: MSU’s Center for Community Engaged Learning connects civic-minded Spartans with volunteer opportunities.

Women*s Student Services: Search programs and workshops that are focused on leadership and mentoring, activism and campus engagement.

Together We Will: Find more information for students on MSU’s website for COVID-19-related updates and resources.
