Based on recommendations from the Associated Students of Michigan State University and University Council, MSU will hold a fall break for undergraduate students in the 2020-21 academic year. Online and in-person 100, 200, 300 and 400 level courses will not be held Oct. 26-27, 2020. The university will remain open and all other activities will proceed as planned. Each college will determine if graduate classes will be held.
This is a pilot effort for the 2020-21 academic year. During the coming year, University Council intends to further examine this issue and other potential changes to the academic calendar aligned with the fall break effort.
"I appreciate the ASMSU initiating this effort and being our partner as it comes together. We all have the success and best interests of our students in mind," said MSU President Samuel L. Stanely Jr., M.D. "The dates were specifically chosen as student stress peaks in late October. The break will come at an ideal time for students to reset and succeed with the rest of the term."
