MSU has a strong reputation for its global thought leadership, research and expertise.
Another milestone was achieved by the Broad College’s Department of Management to reinforce this reputation: being ranked No. 1 for research productivity in the 2019 Texas A&M and University of Georgia Rankings. MSU was last ranked No. 1 in 2015.
In this year’s ranking, MSU is tied with the University of Georgia for the highest number of publications across eight top-tier journals, each with 18 publications over the past year.
“We are thrilled to top the annual rankings of research productivity in the top journals,” department chairperson Donald Conlon said. “And being tied for No. 1 this year with the University of Georgia is not so bad, as the management department at Georgia currently has three faculty who received their Ph.D. from MSU’s management department. In fact, Georgia will also add one recent MSU Management Ph.D. graduate and one of our current doctoral students to their department this fall.”
The ranking also covers research productivity for the most recent five-year period, from 2015 to 2019, ranking MSU No. 2, with a total of 77 publications, behind the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, which had 95 publications.
“This is all the more remarkable when you realize that this record of scholarship is done with a complement of only 17 tenure-stream faculty across the five-year rankings, compared to Wharton, with 47 such faculty, and even Arizona State, ranked No. 3, with 28 faculty,” Conlon said.
