The Michigan State University Board of Trustees selected Dianne Byrum to serve a two-year term as chair and Dan Kelly to serve a two-year term as vice chair, both terms ending Jan. 13, 2021.
Responsibilities of the board chair include representing the board in statements and at events, overseeing committee assignments, establishing meeting agendas and assisting with the facilitation of meetings.
“I am humbled and honored to be selected as the next chair of the Board of Trustees,” Byrum said. “I take this responsibility seriously and am committed to working with my fellow trustees to facilitate change. Together we can write new pages in the history of MSU.”
Trustees also welcomed three new members of the board.
Nancy M. Schlichting
Schlichting was appointed by former Gov. Rick Snyder in December 2018 to fill the seat vacated by George Perles. The term ends Jan. 1, 2023. She was CEO of Henry Ford Health System for 14 years and has more than 35 years of senior level executive experience in four major health systems. Schlichting holds a bachelor’s degree in public policy studies from Duke University and a master’s degree in health care administration and accounting from Cornell University.
Brianna T. Scott
Scott was elected for an eight-year term that began Jan. 1, 2019. In 2005, Scott founded Brianna T Scott & Associates PLLC, the first African-American and minority woman-owned law firm in Muskegon. Scott earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from MSU and law degree from Wayne State University.
Kelly Tebay
Tebay was elected for an eight-year term that began Jan. 1, 2019. She is a director of corporate relations at the United Way for Southeastern Michigan. Tebay earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations with a specialization in Muslim studies and a master’s degree in law enforcement intelligence and analysis, both from MSU.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 15 at 8 a.m.
