The Michigan State University Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum’s Broad Underground Film Series will present David Lamelas’ short film, “In Our Time,” at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7.
Time, location, memory and love play out in front of artist James Ensor's masterpiece painting, “Christ's Entry into Brussels in 1889.” This event will also include a screening of two short films directed by Lamelas and Hildegarde Duane, “The Dictator” and “Manila Run.”
The event includes a conversation between Lamelas and Daniel Ricardo Quiles, assistant professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
This screening is presented in conjunction with the exhibition, “David Lamelas: Fiction of a Production,” on view at the MSU Broad through Jan. 6.
“Fiction of a Production,” Lamelas’ first solo exhibition in the American Midwest, focuses on sculptures and site-specific works that analyze and deconstruct architectural space, repositioning sculpture as a relationship between place, space and time.
Featuring early sculptures presented in Buenos Aires during the 1960s and reconstructions of works that respond to the architecture of the MSU Broad, the exhibition also explores the ways in which the sequential structure of film has influenced the artist’s practice and how time becomes sculptural material.
The event is free and open to the public.
