MSU’s Demmer Center was well represented on July 7 at the Society Archery Michigan Shoot in Rockford, Mich. Thirteen of fourteen competitors took home medals, and 9 of the 13 brought home gold.
Brianna Laux, an Olympic hopeful and member of the Junior Olympic Archery Development Program, beat out the 1984 Olympian in an event called “King of the Hill.” Participants in this event can be any age or gender, and the person with the most points at the end of match wins.
Another JOAD member, Mallory Fee took silver in the event and earned her 11th state title. Fee took gold in Female Bowman Compound.
The Junior Olympic Archery Development Program is an ongoing program of U.S.A. Archery that is designed to teach archery to young people over a series of classes taught by a certified archery instructor or coach.
Led by Coach Glen Bennett., the JOAD program offers both recurve and compound archers the opportunity to learn range safety and proper shooting technique in an environment that also fosters focus, increased self-confidence and team building skills.
The following competitors also earned honors: Roy Rider, Male Master Recurve 70+ - Gold; Aaron Vorce, Male Senior Compound – Gold; Mei Hauenstein, Female Junior Recurve – Gold; Adam Trombley, Male Junior Compound – Gold; Jade Fee, Female Bowman Recurve – Gold; Ashwath Karai, Male Cub Compound – Gold; Cooper Byrum, Male Bowman Compound – Gold; Colleen Drake, Female Cadet Recurve – Silver; Maya Gullick , Female Cadet Compound – Silver; Madison Patrick, Female Cub Compound – Silver; Rachael Lee, Female Cadet Compound – Bronze; and Michael Ros, Senior Compound - 4th place.
