W.K. Biological Station is hosting a dairy open house on July 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. Award-winning KBS cheese will be available to sample and purchase and, best of all, enjoy free MSU ice cream.
This free event is perfect for families, as young ones are sure to enjoy seeing the cows who produce the milk used to make dairy products, learn about dairy production and better understand the agricultural landscapes in Michigan.
The Dairy Open House is held at the Pasture Dairy Center. The center uses robotic milking technology, a system allowing cows to set their own milking schedule, and features 220 acres of pasture devoted to grazing research with a focus on sustainable agriculture and ecosystem services. The barn at the Pasture Dairy Center was the first livestock building in the U.S. to receive a silver level certification for Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design.
