MSU students win Rachel P. Kahan Memorial Scholarship

Two Michigan State University social science students have been awarded the Rachel P. Kahan Memorial Scholarship. The recipients, Elizabeth Schondelmayer and Xue Lin Wang, will receive $1,000 to go toward their fall 2018 semester in Washington, D.C.

The Rachel P. Kahan Memorial Scholarship for MSU’s Washington, D.C., semester study programs honors the memory of Rachel P. Kahan. Kahan was a graduate of MSU’s James Madison College and an alumnus of the College of Social Science Spring 2007 Washington, D.C., semester study program. Additionally, she was a member of D.C. Spartans Alumni Board, and actively gave back to MSU and the D.C. study away program.

Kahan passed away in 2012 after an inspiring battle against cancer. She touched the lives of many Spartans and through this scholarship will continue to positively inspire active community participation and leadership.

Applicants for the scholarship are required to currently be enrolled at MSU and planning to participate in an internship in Washington, D.C., as part of MSU’s semester study program during fall or spring semester. Recipients can be enrolled in any college at MSU, but must be in good academic standing. Those applicants who have demonstrated the Spartan tradition of community engagement and civic leadership are encouraged to apply.
