MSU Greek Life wrapped up its annual Greek Week having raised over $93,000 for local charities and organizations throughout Michigan. This year’s fundraising topped last year’s by $10,000.

The team of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and Sigma Nu and Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternities was the top fundraiser, generating over $30,000 for its designated charity, Camp Kesem. The charity helps provide free summer camps in 40 states for children who have been impacted by a parent’s cancer.

“We, along with our fraternity teammates, are so proud to have raised over $30,000 to send 60 kids to Camp Kesem this summer,” said Lana Floer, president of the Beta-Delta chapter of Gamma Phi Beta. “We are truly gratified to make such a difference in the lives of so many children.”

Every winter, sororities and fraternities come together to form a Greek Week team. Each team then competes against one another in activities over several weeks to raise money for different philanthropic partners.

Greek Week teams raised funds for charities such as C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Sparrow Hospital, Make a Wish Foundation of Michigan, Haven House, McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation, Play Place for Autistic Children, National Alliance on Mental Illness-Lansing, Firecracker Foundation, Refugee Development Center, The Listening Ear, Michigan Disability Rights Coalition, Potter Park Zoo and Seidman Cancer Center.

“The Greek community pulled together to make this year’s Greek Week one of the most successful yet,” said Ellie Small, director of Greek Week. “The monies raised will positively touch the lives of so many within our local community and state.”
