Michael Andary, a professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation in Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, has received the Brain Injury Association of Michigan’s 2018 Legacy Society Award for professional service to the brain injury community.
The award was presented on April 21 during the association's annual Spring Tribute Legacy Society dinner in Novi, Michigan.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from MSU’s Lyman Briggs College, Andary received his medical degree from Wayne State University. He completed an internship at Wayne State before starting a three-year residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as a one-year clinical fellowship at the University of Washington Hospital. There, he also earned a master’s degree in rehabilitation medicine.
A prolific researcher and member of a number of professional boards, he is a former president of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. In 2014, that organization named Andary as its Distinguished Physician of the Year.
