The Michigan State University Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics, or AFRE, has been ranked first among all agricultural and applied economics departments in the world by Research Papers in Economics for its excellence in developing and publishing impactful papers and articles.
AFRE is home to some of the world’s premiere agricultural economists including four current fellows of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, the current president of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association and many award-winning faculty members.
“It is quite impressive that MSU’s AFRE is ranked as the No. 1 department among all institutions in the field of agricultural economics," said Titus Awokuse, department chairperson. "We have continued to rise in the rankings in recent years. This top ranking is a reflection of the positive impact of the significant volume and quality of scholarship by our faculty and students. Given the ongoing flurries of scholarly activities in AFRE, I’m very confident that we will continue to expand the scope of our professional and societal impact for years to come.”
The rankings are based on the proportion of all working papers and refereed journal articles from individuals affiliated with each institution. AFRE was ranked first among all academic departments globally, and fourth among all institutions, only after the World Bank Group, the International Food Policy Research Institute and the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Research Papers in Economics is a collaborative effort of volunteers in 95 countries to enhance the dissemination of research in economics and related sciences. The project consists of a decentralized bibliographic database of working papers, journal articles, books, book chapters and software components.
