Thomas D. Jeitschko has been recommended to serve as associate provost for graduate education and as the new dean of Michigan State University’s Graduate School.
If approved by the Board of Trustees, his appointment will be effective Sept. 16.
Jeitschko is professor of economics and the associate dean for graduate studies in the College of Social Science. He also serves as the director of the American Economic Association Summer Training Program.
His research interests are in applied economic theory with specializations in industrial organization, law and economics and micro-economics more broadly. Jeitschko has published in a wide variety of journals, including the American Economic Review, European Economic Review, Games and Economic Behavior, Economic Theory, the Journal of Law, Economics and Organization and the Journal of Industrial Economics.
In addition, Jeitschko is an associate editor of the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and the International Journal of Industrial Organization, and he is an editorial board member of the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics, in addition to holding several other editorial appointments.
“I am confident in Dr. Jeitschko’s ambitions for strengthening the role of the Graduate School in supporting our colleges, creating additional programs to enhance graduate study and in continuing to raise the profile of MSU's Graduate School on our own campus and around the world,” said MSU Provost June Pierce Youatt.
Jeitschko previously worked as a research economist at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he analyzed mergers and potentially anticompetitive behaviors. He has also advised the attorneys general of several states as a member of the Panel of Economists of the Center for State Enforcement of Antitrust and Consumer Protection Laws, and has been retained as an expert by the U.S. Department of Justice.
In addition to his role at MSU, Jeitschko has held faculty positions at Royal Holloway College, University of London and Texas A&M University, as well as shorter appointments at Duke University, Johns Hopkins and Georgetown and Humboldt universities, with extensive teaching experience in microeconomics, game theory, industrial organization and law and economics.
Jeitschko holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia with a specialization in economic theory and an advanced degree from the University of Münster in Germany with a specialization in economic history.
