At this year’s Arts Weekend at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island held in late June, the Grand Hotel Endowed Scholarship for Arts & Letters was presented for the first time to six deserving students.
Funded by the Musser family, owners of Grand Hotel, the scholarship was created to support students who wish to pursue creative endeavors both inside and outside the classroom. The endowment also rewards students who seek to enhance their lives through creativity.
The first six recipients of the scholarship, students in the Department of Theatre, each embody the goal of the endowment and are exploring creative pursuits as part of their education at MSU.
The 2017 scholarship recipients include:
The students received acknowledgement of their scholarship awards at a reception hosted on the hotel’s iconic porch. During the weekend, guests had the opportunity to enjoy the student performance of “See Rock City and Other Destinations” in the Grand Hotel Theatre.
The Musser family has had a close relationship with MSU throughout the years through MSU’s School of Hospitality Business and the College of Arts and Letters. Amelia Musser served as a member of former College of Arts and Letters dean John Eadie’s Dean Community Council. This council was responsible for establishing the tradition of Arts Weekend.
