QuizBusters, WKAR’s long running high school game show, will return for one final season this fall. The final and 29th season will begin Oct. 7 and continue through the final Grand Championship Series, airing in Spring 2018.
The award-winning original series first aired on the public television station from MSU in 1989. Matt Ottinger has been with the series from the very start as host and producer.
“I have been humbled by the outpouring of support and words of kindness from viewers and especially my former contestants,” Ottinger said. “While we have fun playing the game in the studio, we don't always see the greater impact in the community and the memories we are creating for the students.”
As many as 100 different school districts, including home school groups, have sent teams to compete on the quiz show.
"Throughout this final season, we'll be celebrating Matt and all of the players who appeared on the show through the years," said Susi Elkins, WKAR general manager and director of broadcasting at MSU. "We've got some special episodes planned with some surprises and plenty of chances for the community to join in the fun as QuizBusters wraps up this amazing run of 29 seasons.”
Students on the top team in each division win $5,000 tuition scholarships to MSU, made available by the Office of Admissions. The Grand Champion team receives five one-year textbook scholarships provided by the Student Book Store. The QuizBusters series is also generously supported by Consumers Energy.
