Men strut heels to raise awareness

On Oct. 6, the MSU Greek Community will be hosting a “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event. The goal is to bring the East Lansing and Michigan State University communities together to educate, inform and raise awareness about sexual assault and harassment.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., and the walk will start at noon, beginning at Linden Street and M.A.C. Avenue. Cost is $7 for a single participant and $10 for a participant and a sponsor. High-heeled shoes will be provided for the first 100 male participants.

“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” at MSU will benefit the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, which supports organizations such as the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence. CARDV provides services to people who have faced domestic abuse and sexual assault.

To register, go to http://walkamileinhershoesel.eventbrite.com/. For updates, visit the event Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WalkaMileinHerShoesEL/info. Questions can be sent to Tony Biallas, Interfraternity Council president, at tonybiallas@gmail.com.

MSU’s Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives will be at the event promoting the awareness campaign “There is No Excuse for Sexual Assault,” which helps students, faculty and staff better understand and identify sexual assault on campus.
