Med students hold 5K run/walk to help local uninsured

Medical students from Michigan State University will host the 6th Annual 5K R.A.C.E., Run for Access to Care for Everyone, a run/walk event to benefit the medically uninsured in the capital area.

The event will take place at 1 p.m. April 6 and will start at Conrad Hall on the MSU campus.

It is estimated that 30,000 members of the greater Lansing community do not have adequate medical insurance. Medical students from the MSU chapter of the American Medical Association are doing their part to combat this problem by organizing a 5K R.A.C.E. across MSU campus not only to raise funds that will benefit the uninsured, but also to raise awareness of the medical needs within the local community.

Proceeds from the race will be donated directly to Care Free Medical and Dental. Care Free Medical and Dental is a primary care medical clinic that provides affordable medical, dental, optometry, gynecology, pediatric, behavioral health and substance abuse services for people without health insurance or the ability to pay for medical care.
