EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University is preparing for the first football game of the season, a nationally televised, Friday night showdown at Spartan Stadium against Boise State University.
Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN, and while all classes will be held as scheduled and operational work will continue, some disruption will occur across campus, including closing several parking lots and supervisors implementing flexible work schedules.
Information for football game attendees and tailgaters:
- Campus parking lots will be opened for game-related parking at 3:30 p.m. No game- or tailgate-related parking will be available prior to this time.
- On-campus public game-day parking will be available for $20 at Munn Field (alcohol-free site).
- The cost for lots north of the railroad tracks will be $15.
- The cost for lots south of the railroad tracks will be $10.
- Recreational vehicle parking is available in Lot 92 on Service Road between Hagadorn and Bogue for $30.
- Shuttle bus service is available from Lot 89 at the corner of Mt. Hope Road and Farm Lane. The shuttle starts two hours before the game and returns for a reasonable amount of time after the game. The cost is $4 per game for a roundtrip ticket or $28 for a season pass. Parking is free.
- Charter buses parking is available in Lot 92 on Service Road between Hagadorn and Bogue for $30.
- After the game, the East Lansing Police Department will close southbound Hagadorn Road to traffic at Grand River Avenue, and northbound Harrison Road at Mount Hope Road will be closed to traffic.
Information for faculty, staff and students:
The following parking lots will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. Aug. 30 until 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31, when they will be opened for those holding game day passes for these lots:
- Lot A (62E) located on the north side of the IM Sports West and Spartan Stadium
- Lot C (61) located on the west side of Spartan Stadium
- Lot T (79) located on the south side of Spartan Stadium
On Aug. 31, the remainder of the lots on campus will be available for faculty, staff and students with appropriate parking permits for work- and class-related parking until 1:30 p.m. At that time, MSU Police parking staff will restrict entry into the remainder of the reserved football pass lots.
Faculty and staff who leave these lots during the noon hour should plan to return prior to 1:30 p.m. to ensure re-entry. Alternatively, faculty and staff may obtain passes from their departments to park in designated public lots at no cost.
All faculty and staff with cars are encouraged to begin leaving campus by 3 p.m. Therefore, supervisors are being asked to determine the operational needs of their individual units and, where possible, use flexible schedules so staff may leave by that time.
Game-day parking passes which allow faculty and staff to park in public lots for Saturday games will be honored for this game and should be provided to these to employees who are required to work. Units who require additional passes should contact Officer Britten Riggs, MSU Police, at (517) 432--7938.
For game-day parking-related questions, please contact MSU Police at (517) 355-8440. To view an interactive MSU campus map, visit http://maps.msu.edu/interactive/. For more information on the MSU game day experience, including the no-bag policy, visit http://www.gameday.msu.edu/.
