97th annual ANR week takes place March 3-10

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The 97th annual Agriculture and Natural Resources Week, presented by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, will welcome visitors to Michigan State University's campus March 3-10.

ANR Week is one of the largest events of its kind in the nation. This year ANR Week will provide a wide variety of topics in areas such as agriculture, horticulture and natural resources. Events such as the Michigan Wildflower Conference, the Michigan Organic Reporting Session and Graduate Student Poster Contest and the state convention of the 84th Michigan FFA will take place during ANR Week 2012.

Following is a listing of workshops and conferences that will be offered at ANR Week 2012.

Horticulture workshops and conferences

  • Michigan Herb Associates 25th Annual Conference will take place March 7 and 8 at the Eppley Center and Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
  • Horticultural Therapy: Connecting People and Plants will take place 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 9 in the Plant and Soil Sciences building.
  • Seasons of Change: Using Horticulture Therapy Year Round is another MHTA-hosted workshop which runs 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 10 in the Plant and Soil Sciences building.

Animal-related workshops, conferences and expos

  • Pullorum Certification Workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon March 6 at the MSU Pavilion in Classroom C/D
  • Small Flock Poultry Workshop will take place immediately following the Pullorum Certification Workshop from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Michigan State Rabbit Breeders Association Inc. Convention and Show will take place March 2–4 at the MSU Pavilion.
  • Spring Goat Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 10 in Anthony Hall.
  • Michigan Horse Council’s Horse Expo takes place March 9–11 at the MSU Pavilion.
  • Michigan Beekeepers Association Conference will take place March 9-10 in the Kellogg Center.

Conferences on the topic of Michigan's changing shore lakes and shorelines

  • The Dynamic Great Lakes: Anticipating and Adapting to Change conference will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 6 in the Lincoln Room of the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
  • The Shoreline and Shallows Conference: Climate Change and Lakeshore Landscaping is 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 7 in the Lincoln Room of the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.

Wildlife related workshops and symposiums

  • The 17th Annual Quiet Water Symposium held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. March 3 at the MSU Pavilion is the largest one-day show of its kind celebrating non-motorized outdoor recreation.
  • Beginning Birding Workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 3 at the Kellogg Conference Center
  • Fishing for the Future of Our Great Lakes Workshop which will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 6-7 will teach about Michigan's aquatic resources. The Project FISH program will take place during this workshop.

Workshops for farmers and family forest owners

  • "Connecting the Farm to Consumers 101" will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 7 in the Willy Room of the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
  • "A 'Toolbox' of Opportunities for Family Forest Owners" held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 5 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center

Other conferences

  • The Michigan Barn Preservation Network 17th Annual Conference and Meeting will take place March 9-10 at Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
  • The Michigan Farmers Market Association Conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 6-7 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center. 
  • A Matter of Balance: Energy, Water and Working Lands will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 7 in the Michigamme Room of the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
  • The Great Lakes Forage and Grazing Conference will take place March 7-8 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
