EAST LANSING, Mich. L. Susan Carter, secretary of the Board of Trustees and executive assistant to the president at Michigan State University, will leave that position, effective July 1.
She will continue as an active faculty member in the School of Journalism, as well as the executive coordinator of MSUs Sesquicentennial celebrations throughout 2005-06.
I find myself called to a different way of being with people and need time and space to be able to embrace that reality more fully, Carter said. As a faculty member, alumna and mother of a graduate, it has been an honor to serve MSU in these most recent roles. My time in these roles has only deepened my love and respect for the university and the Spartan family.
Carter received a bachelors degree from MSU, as well as a master of arts degree and a juris doctor degree from Wayne State. Prior to joining the faculty, she was a radio and television broadcaster in Detroit and Windsor, Canada. In 2001, she led an all-woman ski trek to the North Pole.
Dr. Carter has done a truly excellent and productive job, and we are very pleased that she will remain on our faculty and continue to direct the S 150 activities and events during this historic year, said David Porteous, chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Professor Carter has used her extraordinary talents to enhance the work of the university through her role as both secretary of the Board of Trustees and executive assistant to the president, said President Lou Anna Kimsey Simon. The vision and creative energy she has brought to the S 150 celebration will be part of the legacy of MSU for years and years to come.
A search for Carters successor will begin immediately. We look forward to a diverse and broad expression of interest in the job, Simon said.
