SIX MSU STUDENTS HONORED FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Six Michigan State University students were honored for academic achievement by the MSU Board of Trustees during the board's Dec. 7 meeting.

The six students are all December graduates.

The Board of Trustees awards are granted at each commencement to students having the highest scholastic averages at the close of their last semester in attendance.

The award recipients are:

  • Christopher K. Chan of Carpentersville, Ill., an electrical engineering major in the College of Engineering. A member of the Honors College, he is the son of Wan and Joyce Chan and is a 1997 graduate of Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, Ill. His MSU grade point average is 3.9862.

  • Jorrie A. Bedogne of Escanaba, a Lyman Briggs School-human biology major in the College of Natural Science. A member of the Honors College, she is the daughter of Ralph and Debbie Bedogne and is a 1998 graduate of Escanaba Area Public High School in Escanaba. Her MSU grade point average is 3.9848.

  • Chad M. Brooks of Traverse City, a physical science major in the College of Natural Science. He is the son of Steve and Elaine Brooks and is a 1997 graduate of Traverse City Central High School in Traverse City. His MSU grade point average is 3.9830.

  • Cari K. Barnett of Jackson, an accounting major in The Eli Broad College of Business. She is the daughter of Deborah Barnett and Charles Gross and is a 1996 graduate of Northwest High School in Jackson. Her MSU grade point average is 3.9821.

  • Stephen J. Smith of Westland, an electrical engineering major in the College of Engineering. A member of the Honors College, he is the son of Larry and Sharon Smith and is a 1997 graduate of John Glenn High School in Westland. His MSU grade point average is 3.9807.

  • Laura M. Fisher of Dearborn, a chemical engineering major in the College of Engineering. A member of the Honors College, she is the daughter of James and Sandra Fisher and is a 1997 graduate of Dearborn High School in Dearborn. Her MSU grade point average is 3.9772.
