The week in photos: Feb. 18-24, 2025

By: Kelsie Lane

As the sun sets each evening, thousands of lights appear on MSU’s campus. From windows, street lamps or passing cars, each light brings a point of illumination that, when joined together, creates a bright liveliness that permeates the otherwise dark landscape we expect during long winter nights. In this special edition of the Week in Photos, we stayed up late to admire the nocturnal beauty of campus.

The entrance to the Gilbert Pavilion of the Breslin Student Events Center gleams brightly through the night, perhaps due to the excellence of the Spartans who play within. The MSU men’s basketball team beat long-time rival University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday night, improving to 22-5 overall and 13-3 in the Big Ten Conference for the season. Under cover of night, the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum appears to transform into a ship, sailing through a sea of stars as thousands of multicolored lights from East Lansing businesses and homes twinkle all around. Photo by Garret Morgan.

Colored LED lights, designed to cut energy consumption, save money and power research to help Michigan’s farms and farmers, create the signature pink and amber glow of the MSU Plant Science Research Greenhouse Facility. Photo by Garret Morgan.

Open 24 hours a day Monday through Thursday (with plenty of open hours on the weekend), the MSU Main Library stands as a beacon, its windows glowing through the night and welcoming Spartans to the perfect place to gather or study. Photo by Garret Morgan.
Though Spartan Stadium sits empty through the winter, a few lights gently shine across the field, as if the stadium is patiently awaiting the return of MSU football players and fans. Photo by Garret Morgan.
