Coffee is the perfect study fuel, and there’s no better way to recharge than with a boost of caffeine. Located in the MSU Union, Strange Matter offers a variety of homemade drinks and fresh pastries that serve as the ideal pick-me-up during any study session. It is a must-try spot on campus, especially during a hectic week. You have definitely earned yourself a coffee break.

Take a restorative stroll at Beal Botanical Garden

Nestled in the heart of campus, Beal Botanical Garden is one of MSU’s most relaxing hidden gems. Whether you’re taking a quiet walk through this sanctuary or sitting on a bench while immersing yourself in its lush — and perhaps snow-covered — greenery, Beal Botanical Garden is the perfect spot to ease your mind. Spending just 10 minutes here can help soothe exam jitters and boost focus.

Move your body and clear your head at IM West

Physical activity is one of the best ways to combat stress. Join a Pilates or cycling group fitness class, go for a quick run, or lift weights to shake off study stress and clear your head. Exercising boosts endorphins, helping you feel more energized and positive, which comes in handy after hours of studying.

Treat yourself at the MSU Dairy Store

No study break is complete without a sweet treat, and the MSU Dairy Store never disappoints. Indulge in a scoop of your favorite ice cream — maybe the Spartan Swirl or a classic vanilla cone. Either way, give yourself a chance to celebrate how far you’ve come this semester and treat yourself. Taking time to reward your hard work reminds you that balance is key to managing stress during midterms and finals.

Relax with therapy dogs and campus wellness events

During midterms and finals, MSU’s University Health and Wellbeing hosts several events designed to help students unwind and de-stress. Spending time with animals or participating in a short mindfulness activity can help you maintain a positive attitude and lower stress levels. Keep an eye on UHW’s event calendar during midterms and finals week for relaxing and stress-relieving pop-ups on campus. Even a few minutes of calm can make a big difference in how you approach the rest of your day.
