It’s a (digital) victory for MSU: For the second year in a row, Michigan State University ranks among the top 10 schools in the nation for social media engagement in higher education.
The 2025 Higher Education Social Media Engagement Report from Quid and Rival IQ ranks MSU No. 2 overall, including ranking 11th on Instagram, 14th on Facebook, 16th on X and 28th on TikTok. Previously, in 2024, the university ranked No. 4 overall.
The report analyzed data from all Division 1 and 2 institutions to generate an overall engagement ranking score based on a weighted formula. The top-ranked schools on social media have an active profile, strong following and high engagement rates.
“There is no community quite like the one Michigan State has, and this ranking demonstrates that Spartan spirit,” said Ellen Doepke, director of social media within University Communications and Marketing. “Both online and in real life, Spartans show up for each other.”
The ranking reflects MSU’s commitment to fostering community among Spartans and helping them stay connected to the university. From nostalgic posts that allow alumni to reminisce, to trending content that helps students feel seen, to research stories illustrating impact across the globe, there’s a social media post for Spartans of all ages and backgrounds.
