MSU, Apple announce manufacturing academy to open in August

Michigan State University announced its latest partnership with Apple, the Apple Manufacturing Academy, will open August 19 in Detroit’s First National Building.

“Michigan State University’s continued partnership with Apple brings about this next opportunity to help solve the world’s problems through innovative solutions and community outreach,” said MSU President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Ph.D. “MSU’s expertise in supply chain, logistics, engineering and packaging, coupled with our commitment to be an industry leader in artificial intelligence advancements, will bring much-needed support and skill development to this essential industry in the birthplace of American manufacturing.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome companies from across the country to the Apple Manufacturing Academy starting next month,” said Sabih Khan, Apple’s chief operating officer. “Apple works with suppliers in all 50 states because we know advanced manufacturing is vital to American innovation and leadership. With this new programming, we’re thrilled to help even more businesses implement smart manufacturing so they can unlock amazing opportunities for their companies and our country.”

Earlier this year, MSU and Apple announced the forthcoming Apple Manufacturing Academy. Offering in-person and virtual programming aimed at uplifting and improving operations of small- and medium-sized manufacturing companies, the Apple Manufacturing Academy is the first of its kind in the United States. The academy builds upon Apple’s long history of investing in American innovation and advanced high-skill manufacturing by partnering with MSU to train and support American businesses.

The new Apple Manufacturing Academy is open to companies nationwide. It is comprised of Apple engineers and experts from Michigan State University who will consult with small- and medium-sized businesses on how they can implement AI and smart manufacturing techniques.

The academy offers free in-person, and will offer online courses later this year, with training curriculum that teaches workers vital skills like project management and manufacturing process optimization, as well as vocational and leadership skills for individuals and small and medium businesses. The courses will help drive productivity, efficiency and quality in companies’ supply chains. Consulting services to the manufacturing companies will be offered both virtually and in person.

MSU also partners with Apple on the Apple Developer Academy, with support from the Gilbert Family Foundation. This highly successful academy recently celebrated its fourth graduating class, resulting in more than 1,400 alumni.

Businesses interested in registering for courses or consultations at the Apple Manufacturing Academy should visit manufacturingacademy.msu.edu.
