Vamos a Bailar is a collaborative event between the Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions, or OCAT, and the Honors Students of Color Coalition, or HSOCC, that showcases and honors Hispanic heritage. The reception, which will take place in the Demonstration Hall Ballroom, will celebrate Hispanic culture by providing an opportunity for the MSU community to enjoy food, music and dance. In addition to the festivities, the event will kick off with a brief presentation highlighting Hispanic presence in academia.
Domenic Cedillo, the president of HSOCC, helped facilitate the event with OCAT. Cedillo believes the presentation will expand students’ understanding of the struggles the Latinx community faces regarding general access to opportunities. Cedillo hopes that the event will empower and inspire Latinx students to make a place for themselves in academia.
“People will realize that Latin America is a huge region with lots of different cultures that contribute to the global society,” said Cedillo. “This event provides the space for students to learn about the diverse characteristics found in the Hispanic community at MSU.”
This event is supported and sponsored by the Broad College of Business, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, College of Natural Science, College of Social Science, Office for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, Julian Samora Research Institute, Migrant Student Services, MSU Graduate School, MSU Mosaic and School of Social Work.
MSU recognizes National Hispanic Heritage Month, and our community is coming together to strengthen resources, programs, research centers and scholarships serving Hispanic and Latinx students at MSU. Learn more at givingto.msu.edu.
