Student Parent Resource Center annual diaper drive supports student success

The Student Parent Resource Center’s mission is to provide support, resources and campus and community connections for all MSU student parents through graduation and beyond. They work by helping non-traditional students achieve their goals, creating two-generation success and establishing long-term connections with the university. Help support the diaper drive through SPRC’s Amazon wish list or SPRC’s diaper fund.

Kimberly Steed-PageFor the 7th consecutive year, the Student Parent Resource Center at MSU is running its annual diaper drive during Diaper Needs Awareness Week. “[This week] brings attention to the importance of providing all parents access to diapers and accessories,” said the Student Parent Resource Center Director, Kimberly Steed-Page.  “As a campus resource, we are committed to helping student families thrive and succeed at MSU.”

The annual diaper drive accepts donations of packaged diapers in all sizes, diapering supplies such as baby wipes and powder, postpartum supplies and adult diapering items. The Student Parent Resource Center also accepts donations of essential items that keep babies and toddlers healthy, such as baby soap, oil, lotion, rash creams and ointments. SPRC’s Amazon wish list has a wide variety of options for folks to use as inspiration for donations. However, SPRC’s diaper fund always accepts and appreciates monetary donations.

Jane Blossey-Forystek“When we help a student parent by providing supplemental diapers, that parent gets one step closer to graduation and keeps our youngest Spartans clean, dry and healthy,” said Jane Blossey-Forystek, the Student Parent Resource Center coordinator.

The Student Parent Resource Center’s annual diaper drive is a valuable resource for MSU students taking care of dependents. The combined costs of childcare, diapering needs and everyday necessities are a compounding struggle for one in two families in the United States. Additionally, 28% of families with children in the United States have reported skipping meals to afford diapering supplies, and three in five parents often miss school or work because they cannot afford the diapers required for external childcare. The continued need for SPRC’s diaper drive is apparent. For this reason, the drive has become an annual tradition and focal point of SPRC's support for student parents.

“When student parents don’t have to worry about their children’s needs, it allows them to focus on their coursework and increases persistence towards earning their degrees,” said Steed-Page.

  • The Student Parent Resource Center in University Village (1199 Garden City Rd)
  • The Student Parent Resource Center in the Union, Room 332
  • The Student Veterans Resource Center in the Student Services Building, Room 8

MSU is committed to uplifting and supporting our student-parent Spartans. Our community is coming together to support the Student Parent Resource Center’s diaper fund, which provides essential supplies for student parents to keep their child clean, dry and healthy.
