Shelby Gombosi has been promoted to associate director of the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, or RCPD, a unit within University Health and Wellbeing. Gombosi will support the management and leadership of RCPD, ensuring the provision of high-quality services and programs that enhance accessibility, promote equity and inclusion, and foster access for students and employees. She will report to the new Director of RCPD who will be announced soon
RCPD was created in the 1970s to provide all students equal access to a university education. The foundational services for students with mobility and visual disabilities have expanded over the years to include services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing as well as those with learning disabilities, brain injuries, psychiatric conditions or various chronic health conditions. RCPD also provides services for MSU employees with disabilities.
Gombosi recently served as assistant director for case management, assessment and programmatic innovation for RCPD. She was an access specialist when she joined RCPD in 2020. She has been with MSU since 2008 and has a background in administration and student affairs.
“Shelby’s promotion is a testament to her hard work, dedication and innovative spirit,” said Assistant Provost and Executive Director of Health and Wellbeing Alexis Travis. “I am excited to see her continue to shape the future of disability services here at MSU.”
Gombosi pioneered the Promoting Education and Emotional Resilience, or PEER, Program — a psychoeducational workshop that helps students develop resiliency skills by using techniques derived from evidence-based practices — within RCPD. A relationship builder across the university, Gombosi has been instrumental in increasing awareness and education around disability initiatives and services on campus.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Cornerstone University and a master’s in rehabilitation counseling from MSU. Outside the office, Gombosi enjoys spending time with her family and friends, kayaking, traveling, attending concerts and music festivals, and visiting warmer climates for fun by the ocean.
